Flibberty-ibberty-gibbet

This boy is at the top of his game! I am so proud of the way he gets right to his school work each day and there is zero nonsense. What is he reading? Here is a clue: "I have to stay right here, I am no flibberty-ibberty-gibbet." What story is this? Cody knows!

He was reading the adventures in Charlotte's Web. I think he is realizing reading can be fun.

One of my boys decided to try and spoof me that they finished their reading chapter reading. Comprehension questions were all missed and of course he was found out. Since there was a chance he had skimmed instead of read before today, he was allowed to begin Chapter 1 through 7 again, aloud. He also looked up words he didn't know the meaning of to help in his reading.

Another of my boys decided to simply copy the paragraph in his writing assignment instead of writing the paragraph in his own words. He was given another opportunity to write in his own words.

In both instances, the boys were not thrilled at their new opportunity . . . but I do think they just might have learned a little something.

School Day 3 and Book Lice

Our little home-school is now in full swing and today was a great success! I have decided we will school for three days week until August 20 when all week school will begin.

Today the boys were excited to learn about Book Lice. Yes, they are real and hiding anywhere there is mold, mildew, books . . . Library book shelves and basements. Of course, I pulled up a little Youtube.com video and pictures for the kids to see. While we were reading the story, we stopped at each sentence to locate three KEY words that would aid in reminding the boys about the story so they could write a story about Book Lice without "looking" at the story. Each of them wrote good little versions of their own and actually enjoyed themselves.

The boys are doing well with their new curriculum by Veritas Press. We have tweaked each schedule and am pleased with the results.

Here are a few pictures of our classroom this year:

2014 - 2015 School Prep

Summer is flying by . . . I can't believe it is already July 14!

The 2014-2015 School year is a little more than a month away, so I have been on a mission to get everything in order before August 1.

I decided on curriculum for the boys through Veritas Press. I am extremely excited for the boys' schooling, although a little intimidated by the change. I know we made the right decision for the curriculum . . . we will definitely be learning, learning, learning.

I have also decided to use a Teacher's Planner this year . . . to simplify things. I can simply look at the planner and know exactly what subjects we are covering on a certain day. The software also offers little check boxes for each assignment as it is finished and turned in. (love it) The planner I am using is by HomeSchool Planet . . .  you can find it HERE

There are several other advantages to this little planner - too many to list, but one awesome one is - a mobile app.

Have a Great Day!
